About Nate

I am a Bachelor of Journalism graduate from the University of Regina (2012) and I’ve also completed a Bachelor of Arts in History (2010) from the University of Alberta.

In addition, I’m a sports fanatic … NFL, NHL, PGA TOUR, NCAAFB, NCAABK, MLB, CFL, Tennis, Curling … but my cheers are reserved for my hometown Edmonton Oilers and Eskimos, as well as the New England Patriots and the University of Florida Gators.

During my time at the University of Alberta, I volunteered to write numerous sports articles for The Gateway, the school’s newspaper. I’ve also written some sports articles for the The Carillon, the University of Regina’s school newspaper. But my biggest venture into journalism came in January to April 2011 when I interned at the Edmonton Journal as both a news and sports reporter. During that time I was fortunate to have stories published at media outlets across Canada.

Some of the other volunteering ventures I’m most proud of include: a) going on a three-week missions trip to Ukraine in 2005  … b) volunteering in the media centre at the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits … c) volunteering for CBC Saskatchewan as a VoteMob reporter during the 2011 provincial election campaign … d) writing a handful of golf stories with betting slants for the UK-based website Oddschanger in 2012.

I am currently living in my hometown of Edmonton, AB, where I have been an Account Associate Operator in Print Production for Xerox since July 2012. Despite my current employment with Xerox, I am looking for a full-time gig as a journalist in whatever platform(s) may be available to me. Ideally, I would love if my first full-time journalism job was as a sports reporter, but I do love my politics and think court reporting would be an interesting beat to cover.

FYI: I also tweet more than my fair share (@liewicks) … Enjoy the blog posts!
